MMC Online Experience Guideline

I feel that using a Podcast would work extremely well with reinforcing instruction within the classroom. Accoring to the Michigan Merit Curriculum Guidelines a Podcast "is the method of distributing multimedia files, such as audio programs or music videos, over the Internet for playback on mobile devices and personal computers." An example of how I may utilize a Podcast in my classroom would be a demonstration of a specific marching style or choreography in our competition show. The demonstration could be done in class in order to set the foundation and answer any questions. A Podcast could then be used in order to reenforce what was taught. The students then mirror what I am doing and explaining on the Podcast.

I don't feel that Distance Learning could be used in my classroom. Being a performance-based class, I feel that it would be extremely difficult to make good use of this technique. Accoring to the Michigan Merit Curriculum Guidelines Distance Learning is "a field of education that focuses on the pedagogy/andragogy, technology,
and instructional systems design that are effectively incorporated in delivering education to students who are not physically “on site” to receive their education." This method does not work well for modeling and giving hands-on advise regarding the specifics of playing the instrument for the individual student.

  1. Yes, I agree that distance learning would be hard to incorporate into a performance-based curriculum. Especially, since part of the experience is playing in a group ensemble on a regular basis.

  2. The way you have proposed using a podcast is very similar to the way that I want to use Blackboard in my classroom-to demonstrate marching techniqes.

I agree that it would not be feasible to use distance learning technology in the instrumental music classroom.
